Welcome, and I hope you are enjoying the blog! My name is Andrew Hansen. Following Jesus has always been the center of my life. I started blogging back in high school, seeing it as a way to blend my deep commitment to my faith with my talent and passion for writing. After blogging off and on over the years, I took an extended break from blogging. Recently however,my oldest brother urged me to write about my faith once again. After prayer and consideration, I felt God affirming this call to blog once again. Now let me tell you a little bit about myself.

Life of Andrew Hansen

Early Life

To start, I was born in 1991 in the heart of Connecticut. The youngest of three boys, family life revolved around our faith and the Episcopal Church to which we belonged. For instance, we were not allowed to open gifts from Santa until after the Christmas morning church service. I was fortunate to have a group of friends from church with whom I often spent time, not just on Sundays. This was important because my brothers were much older than me, and it wasn’t long before most of the time I was the only one of us living at home.

Even from a young age, I was a political junkie. While my friends were focusing on the sports and comics sections of the newspaper when we got a newspaper as a part of our English class, I was reading the news sections of the paper. To be fair, I also did read my collection of Calvin & Hobbes every day. Also, I was a Rush Baby, and not a weekday went by without The Rush Limbaugh Program being on the air. Though I was, and still do consider myself a political conservative, I viewed news from a variety of points of view. The Hartford Courant which I would read was far from conservative, and we regularly tuned into Hannity and Colmes. As I grew in my faith, I knew that we needed something more than just simple political commentary. Late in high school, I started tuning into Glenn Beck, and then moved onto explicitly Christian commentators such as Steve Deace and Allie Beth Stuckey.

Brought to Something Better

While I started my life in the Episcopal Church, events made it clear that the Episcopal Church could no longer be our church home. The summer before I started high school, the Episcopal church split over holding onto Biblical truth versus adopting the current culture’s ideas of right and wrong. When this happened, we could no longer attend the church I grew up in. I had to cut ties with friends I had known my whole life. Yet God had something better for me.

By the time I entered high school, I was attending a non-denominational Christian school. After a few months without a church home, my best friend invited me to a Baptist Church connected with Converge that he and his family attended, and that I had been attending a youth group through. Coming from the highly liturgical Episcopal church, it was a shock when the first sermon that I heard there was on Pentecost despite it being the middle of Lent. However, their commitment to God, commitment to making first things first, and holding to what the Bible teaches made it clear that I had found a good church to call home.

Undoubtedly, finding this church was one of the greatest blessings in life. Though, during the time I was away at college, I attended a faithful, Bible-believing Anglican church or a nearby community church. Eventually, I connected with my home church’s vibrant Young Adults ministry. I am now on the lay leadership team for the Young Adults ministry and still consider the same Baptist church as my home.

Education and Career

For my education, I attended Dean College in Franklin, Massachusetts, a private secular liberal arts college. There, I started out studying liberal arts, focusing on History. Eventually, I switched to studying business and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business in 2016. Currently, I work in office support, but I am looking for the next career stop.

However, for theological training, I do not have formal training. Yet, I have been blessed with opportunities for self-study and to learn from great teachers who have such training. An avid reader, I read every theological or Christian living book I can get my hands on. Additionally, connecting with pastors and apologists in online groups has allowed me to learn much. One day, I do hope to pursue more formal training. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources to do so currently.
